aujourd'hui j'ai mis a jour la doc sur un alerteur, et comme je manquait d'inspiration j'ai mis ca, en esperant faire rire un ou deux collègues :

  • Faire ce que dit l'alerte
  • Réfléchir a pourquoi on a cette alerte alors qu'avant tout allait bien
  • Se rendre compte qu'on ne comprend rien à l'informatique
  • Se rouler en boule sur le sol et reflechir a ses choix de vie et comment on en est arrivé là.
  • Se reconvertir dans l'élevage de chèvres dans le larzac
  • avant de partir faire un ticket dans Redmine pour le prochain sysadmin/DBA.

My friend Henrietta Dombrovskaya pinged me on Telegram. Her production cluster had just been killed by the OOM killer after eating 2 TB of RAM. work_mem was set to 2 MB. Something didn’t add up. Hetty, like me, likes playing with monster hardware. 2 TB of RAM is not unusual in her world. But losing the whole cluster to a single query during peak operations is a very different kind of problem from a 3am outage.
