That really does not sound "resolved" as has been marked.

The bug report makes it sound like a problem where something is not behaving correctly when there is no systemd-logind on the Desktop Bus.

Which means that whomever this affects has to sit down and trace what is happening across the system-wide Desktop Bus with both the output of dbus-monitor --system and the log output of the system-wide dbus-daemon wherever that is going to.

And at the very least ktrace the processes that die.

Is there a way to run a script when I log out of ssh to a Linux server?

Somewhere in all this #systemd / #logind user session setup, isn't there some hook that runs when a user session is closed?

From the ADMIN Update newsletter: @tscherf shows you how to disconnect OpenSSH user sessions automatically with the systemd-logind service https://www.admin-magazine.com/Archive/2024/79/Automatically-terminate-OpenSSH-sessions #systemd #logind #admin #OpenSSH #configuration #security #SSH

Finally had a bit more time to work on #wlr-shell.

Got this power menu widget working with #logind integration.

I'm starting to like the confirm buttons within the menu itself. This is in contrast to a large overlay with a confirm dialog that would be seen in #gnome.

What do you all think?

#sway #linux #desktop #gtk

I'm setting up a small box for a TV. I wanted to avoid a DM that will only autologin my user. I saw https://vincent.bernat.ch/en/blog/2021-startx-systemd in #PlanetDebian that uses a systemd unit to let #logind do its work.

It took me a while to realize I cannot use there vt7 and have to use vt8 as in the example. I'm still not sure why.

Using #icewm as the desktop. I mostly need to run Firefox (maybe: and/or Kodi) and an occasional terminal. So it's simple and intuitive enough.

Automatic login with startx and systemd

Instead of using a display manager to autologin into an Xorg session on boot, we can use startx and systemd.

I naively thought that #Debian is going to be easier to maintain than #FreeBSD. Well, surprise; getting a working #WiFi is a nightmare. It is ridiculous how hard it is to properly set up #systemd #networking on Debian (so that I don't have to find new hacks whenever I reboot and the old ones stop working). Also, the machine suspends autmagically every 1st boot. And when you disable any suspending then your #X session crashes because #logind fails to start.

Retreat & roll back.
