#Liturgical Help
I did something for the first time this past Sunday: I followed the 1662 rubrics for Morning Prayer + Litany + Ante-Communion. It was quite the experience for me and the small group involved. A very different experience from my experiences with the 28 and 79 #BCP for Sunday liturgy.
#liturgical #choral music you may enjoy, as well as H reading scripture. #Mythology in practice!

Some #theological hills I am willing to die on:
1) The plenary inspiration of #scripture
2) At bare minimum, adherence to the #doctrines proclaimed by the first four Councils of the undivided #church must be upheld.
3) The #eucharist / #lordssupper ought to be celebrated *weekly*.
4) The #eucharist / #lordssupper , while symbolic, is not merely symbolic but also a true/real encounter/communion with Jesus.
5) #Baptism *must* be done in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
6) Baptism is #regenerative
7) #Liturgical #worship is essential because the #bible itself reveals the Church’s worship as liturgical.
8) The #unity of the Church is not merely a spiritual reality (i.e. invisible), but a reality that ought to be visible for all the world to see.
9) Except in the cases of #heresy or wholesale unrepentant #sin within a portion of the Church, rending the Church’s unity is sinful. (So, disagreements over adiaphora are not worthy of division -- no matter how much one love's their pet theological theory)
10) All #christians must pray for and actively work towards and for the reunification of the Church.

Why should those who are #Reformed & #evangelical insist on the importance of #liturgical #worship ?

Because:
1) Worship is always presented as liturgical in the #Bible
2) Liturgical worship is the historic/universal form of the Church’s worship.
3) Liturgical worship is #sacramental - it presents the Gospel not only via the word, but also through the #sacraments ordained by God - and as such it is more faithfully biblical.
4) ALL the magisterial reformers worshipped liturgically.
5) Biblically shaped liturgy is missionally oriented - it shapes the worshipper for/towards #mission .
6) Liturgy is formative of β€œsticky” #faith : a) because it engages a person’s whole being, it tends to reinforce faith wholistically (not merely intellectually), b) because it is is sacramental the person TANGIBLY encounters God’s #grace , c) because historic liturgy is robustly biblical it soaks the person in Scripture, and d) because it is patterned/repetitive it becomes engrained.

#SURVEY
#DCU, #MTU, #TCD are carrying out an exploratory study on attitudes of #Irish #choirs, in all contexts, to #plainchant as a historical and #liturgical repertory; to examine the relevance of plainchant and its uses by #amateur choirs in an Irish context, and seeks to establish whether engagement might be enhanced through access to workshops and digital resources.

Exploring attitudes to learning and performing chant in Irish choral educational contexts.

The following questionnaire seeks to examine current attitudes to plainchant among Irish choral singers and directors of all ages and musical ability, and to investigate whether an interest in chant may be facilitated by greater access to online resources and both online and face-to-face training opportunities. There will be an optional focus group held to explore themes arising from questionnaire responses in due course (you can register your interest in response to question 9). This survey is part of a study being carried out by Dr Rhoda Dullea, MTU Cork School of Music, Dr Giovanna Feeley, School of Theology, Philosophy, and Music, DCU, and Dr Ann Buckley, Medieval History Research Centre, TCD. Please note that participation in any aspect of this study is voluntary and you can withdraw at any time without penalty. Throughout the survey your privacy will be protected and your participation will remain confidential. By completing the questionnaire, you indicate that your participation is voluntary. The questionnaire should take less than 10 minutes of your time. If you have questions about the survey or broader study, or wish to exercise your right to withdraw any aspect of your responses, please contact the administrator, Rhoda Dullea, at [email protected].
