Huh. Surprised by the fact that Linux users aren’t the rabid text expansion users I’d assumed they were.
I’ve got Espanso installed now, but there don’t seem to be many (Wayland) options other than that.
First experiences with @nixos_org on Raspberry Pi:
• Documentation is just *bad* at explaining things in a way that I understand
• Got confused abt the image download
• Learning Nix has been a struggle
.....but:
I LOVE the experience of declarative service definitions on the server!
It's just SO GOOD...... :D
Blog post about my new cluster setup, just as soon as I've finished building it :P

I need to learn jq.
I'm used to parsing JSON with PowerShell which is logical and easy to use. I even install PowerShell Core on my Linux systems so I don't have to learn to use jq.
But now I have to learn to do it with jq because that's all that's available for this particular linux-ish automation platform.
I can't seem to find a good, physical book to buy for it.
I was really hoping O'Reilly had a pocket guide like sed & awk Pocket Reference but for jq but it doesn't look like it.
What physical books would you recommend?
Learning linux is a great career goal. But how to get started? Well you need some basics, but you also need something to do with linux, otherwise its just this thing that you don't have a reason to use.
I think step one, should be to build a #homelab that will let you run systems to learn on. So, In the first episode of my practical Learning Linux it's all abou thow to turn an old Laptop into a basic Linux based Homelab hypervisor!
Learning Linux the Practical way. Build a homelab!

Weird idea:
My gaming computer has about 14.5 TB of storage broken up between two spinning rust drives, one SSD, and an nvme.
So I'm thinking...
8tb rust (/opt/steam/slow)
4tb rust (/opt/steam/slow)
2tb SSD (/opt/steam/fast)
512 Nvme (/)
Evidently I can do the chicanery of the first two drives if I make an lvm pool of them? First time I'm screwing with this sort of thing.
And, yes. I only bought those drives for steam storage. Combination of being annoyed at constantly cycling games and storage being dirt cheap around the holidays.
@nadiaalbelushi I've always been super afraid to transition to Linux, although I'm very interested in it. I'm in the process of moving my main contacts over to a non Google, non Outlook associated email.
And I'm working to find a proper non android phone, or maybe learning how to root one. I'm sort of tech savvy, but it's been a long time that I wouldn't even know where to start. I'm a little intimidated by it.
