@nadiaalbelushi I've always been super afraid to transition to Linux, although I'm very interested in it. I'm in the process of moving my main contacts over to a non Google, non Outlook associated email.

And I'm working to find a proper non android phone, or maybe learning how to root one. I'm sort of tech savvy, but it's been a long time that I wouldn't even know where to start. I'm a little intimidated by it.

@albacan @nadiaalbelushi it's totally doable but one piece of unsolicited advice. Dual boot if you can. Nothing will make somebody give up on Linux quicker than not being able to solve a problem quickly when you know how on Windows or Mac.

Have the fall back ready so you can keep your productivity/momentum going. If you don't have time to figure out something on Linux, temporarily jump back and when you have the time or energy, you can figure out the problem on Linux

@steveh @nadiaalbelushi I think that's a great idea! I've got a refurbished laptop, as well as an old PC that I think might properly run, so experimenting with it could be a viable option.
@albacan i've been looking at the phone side of things for a while now and have come to the conclusion that the best option is to pick the phone OS you like the look of, check which devices have the best support on it, and pick up a secondhand one to experiment on. that way you're not without a phone while you're fiddling for an unknown amount of time @nadiaalbelushi

@mensrea @nadiaalbelushi

That's a fantastic idea, thank you! I've got several old Android phones laying around, so I'll have to tinker with them. There's an old S9 that I've been wanting to fix, and this might be an excellent way to learn!

@albacan from what i remember the s9 is quite well supported @nadiaalbelushi
@mensrea @nadiaalbelushi omg really!? I'm actually really excited about that! Time to get my ass into gear and get it repaired!
