Universal Law of Gender: The Creative Balance Within All Things

    January 15, 2026

    Ashley Marie

This article is written as part a series exploring the 12 Universal Laws, timeless principles that guide the flow of energy and influence the fabric of our reality. Each law, from the Law of Divine Oneness to the Law of Gender, represents a fundamental truth about how the universe operates and how we can harmonize with its rhythms to enhance our lives.

In this series, we will delve into each law, unraveling its significance, real-world applications, and practical insights that can help you align with these cosmic principles.

Whether you’re new to these metaphysical concepts or seeking to deepen your understanding, welcome to this journey of inner and outer transformation.

I invite you to share your perspectives in the comments — your experience may illuminate a new layer of insight for others.

    The Twelve Universal Laws

Before we explore this specific principle, it’s helpful to remember that these laws are part of a larger whole — a system of interconnected principles that describe how energy behaves in all realms of existence.

Based on the Seven Hermetic Principles of Hermes Trismegistus

A quick search engine query will land you with results listing a wide array of universal laws and authors from a myriad of scholarly disciplines. I watched a video posted to YouTube that outlined FIFTY universal laws!

While the information included in the video was valid and relevant, they are mere extensions of a list that was first published in 1908 in a sacred esoteric text titled, The Kybalion.

The most popular occult work of the twentieth century–now in a hardbound CENTENARY edition!! *paid link

The authors, identified only as the “Three Initiates,” reportedly documented divine revelations of Hermes Trimegistus of ancient Egypt that had before only been passed verbally to initiates.

Known as the Hermetic Principles, these immutable and eternal laws of the universe influence everything around us, every detail and circumstance in our lives. Our ignorance of their existence is not an accident. They have been kept hidden from us because, without them, we can’t comprehend the hidden connections between our internal and external worlds, and we are subject to the volatile nature of our emotions. This makes us much easier to control and manipulate.

Start at the beginning and learn more about the Twelve Universal Laws.

Together, the Twelve Universal Laws form a cohesive framework that reveals the mechanics of existence — from vibration and attraction to rhythm and polarity.

As the final principle in this series, the Law of Gender invites us to return inward — to recognize the creative balance that exists within all things, including ourselves. The Law serves as a unifying force, reminding us that creation is not driven by one energy alone, but by the harmonious interplay of complementary forces.

Thank you for walking this path of reflection and awareness. Your presence here is part of the unfolding. ✨

What Is the Law of Gender?

The Universal Law of Gender states that everything contains both masculine and feminine energies. These energies are not tied to biological sex, but to modes of expression and creation.

    In its simplest form:

Creation requires balance between receptive and expressive energy.

Masculine energy is often associated with action, structure, logic, and direction. Feminine energy is associated with intuition, receptivity, nurturing, and flow. Neither is superior — both are essential.

Creation occurs when these energies collaborate.

How the Law of Gender Operates in Life

This law is visible everywhere — in nature, consciousness, and creative expression.

    Creation Begins Within

Every idea is conceived through feminine energy — intuition, imagination, inspiration — and brought into form through masculine energy — action, planning, execution. Without one, creation remains incomplete.

    Imbalance Leads to Stagnation

Overemphasis on doing without being leads to burnout. Excess receptivity without action leads to stagnation. The Law of Gender teaches us that sustainable growth requires both movement and stillness.

    Inner Harmony Shapes Outer Reality

When we honor both energies within ourselves, our external experiences reflect greater alignment. Relationships, creativity, and purpose flourish when inner balance is restored.

Living in Alignment With the Law of Gender

The Law of Gender invites us to integrate the masculine and feminine energies within ourselves — action and receptivity, logic and intuition, structure and flow. When these energies are balanced, creation becomes effortless and aligned.

    1. Balance Doing With Being

Modern life often emphasizes constant action. The Law of Gender reminds us that being is just as essential as doing. Before taking action, allow space for reflection and intuition.

    Ask yourself:

    • Am I acting from alignment or urgency?
    • Have I allowed space for insight to emerge?

Creation begins in stillness and is fulfilled through action.

    2. Listen to Intuition Without Abandoning Logic

Feminine energy speaks through intuition, emotion, and subtle awareness. Masculine energy provides structure, discernment, and execution. Honoring both allows decisions to feel both inspired and grounded.

    Practice:

    • Noticing intuitive nudges without dismissing them
    • Using logic to support, not override, intuition

When these energies collaborate, clarity emerges naturally.

    3. Honor Cycles of Creation

Every creation — an idea, relationship, or project — follows a gestation period. Pushing too quickly can disrupt natural development.

    Instead, allow:

    • Time for ideas to form fully
    • Space for refinement before action

Patience is not delay — it is fertile ground.

    4. Release Gendered Conditioning

This law invites us to move beyond societal expectations around gender expression. Strength does not negate softness, and receptivity does not diminish power.

    Ask:

    • Where might I be suppressing one energy?
    • How would integration feel instead of opposition?

Wholeness emerges when all aspects are honored.

    5. Create From Inner Balance

When something feels forced, it often signals energetic imbalance. Pause and check in:

    • Am I pushing without listening?
    • Am I waiting without acting?

Creation flows most freely when masculine and feminine energies are in harmony.

Conclusion: Wholeness Is the Final Teaching

The Law of Gender teaches us that creation is not about dominance or passivity — it is about cooperation. The Law brings us full circle — reminding us that the universe does not create through division, but through union.

When we integrate both masculine and feminine energies within ourselves, we become conscious creators — grounded, intuitive, purposeful, and whole — aligned with the natural intelligence of life.

✨ Balance is not something we seek — it is something we remember.

    A Final Invitation

As this series comes to a close, take a moment to reflect:

    • Which law resonated most deeply?
    • Where have you noticed subtle shifts in awareness?
    • How will you carry these insights forward?

Share your reflections in the comments — your voice completes the circle.
And if this journey has resonated, consider sharing the series with others seeking deeper understanding of universal flow and inner alignment.

Thank you for exploring the Twelve Universal Laws. May your path continue with clarity, balance, and intention

Tantric: It’s more than great sex

The following information is from a website that I reference often, called the Spirit Alembic.
All credit goes to the original author known as Khiron and the rest of the members of The Maitreyan Order Of Hsien Tao! Minimal edits added for emphasis of certain points; shared here in hopes of sparking a beautiful discussion about tantrism and how I incorporate its tenets in my own practice!

TANTRA: Sex, God and other Mirrors

Originally named after a group of verses in the spiritual literature of Asia, Tantra has far outgrown both Asia and religion itself, to become one of the basic ‘approaches’ to life in the body and the spirit as well.

While there are thousands of pages written already on the topic, the basic PREMISE of Tantra bears repeating; that..

EVERY RELATIONSHIP ALTERS BOTH PARTIES TO IT, BY ‘MELTING’ THEM TOGETHER AND MIXING THEIR “INGREDIENTS” INTO ONE ANOTHER.

We have all experienced Tantra throughout our lives, perhaps without realizing it was occuring. As infants, we absorbed the traits of our parents by Tantric “reflection:” later, we did the same with our playmates, hero-figures, friends and ESPECIALLY our Lovers. Tantra’s first and most lasting Principle is that it operates on LOVE. Whatever we Love, we melt-into.. and anything we do NOT love, we do not Tantra-with but EXCLUDE FROM OURSELVES, or DISOWN. The second Principle of Tantra is that anything that we wrongfully disown is drawn to us, to seek reunion. This powerful teaching deserves a second (and third!,) thought!

Are you surrounded by the types of people and life-experiences that you Love?.. or are you surrounded by A FEW of your Beloved things and friends and A LOT OF OPPOSITES TO THAT? Tantra begins it’s study by asking us to honestly answer that question.. and then DO SOMETHING TO IMPROVE OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH LIFE.

    Meeting The Mirror

How we go-about the process of improving our relationship with Life is by recognizing the two “categories” Life presents to us: 1) THE BELOVED things and people we ‘melt-into’ and.. 2) THOSE THAT WE DO NOT LOVE sufficiently, and therefore are surrounded-by like an Army of ‘problems’ and ‘enemies.’

BOTH of those categories Tantra calls ‘THE MIRROR;’ one ‘side’ of which we “Love” and the other ‘side’ of which we simply DO NOT “SEE” OURSELF AS. Tantric Relating is the process of learning to SEE oneself as and in all of BOTH SIDES of our Reality.. until we have ‘melted-into’ everything in our lives. It is the claim of Tantrists that this process leads to genuine PEACE and a Universality of nature that makes one truly ‘the brother (AND sister) of ALL PEOPLES.’

A little exercise in Mirror-work: jot down somewhere two lists, titled…
“What I LOVE and want around me all the time:” and
“What I DON’T want but HAVE around me all the time.”

Compare the two lists.. and try to imagine ways of learning to ‘melt-into’ the second list, and make peace with it. Tantra teaches that doing so will naturally make that second list more enjoyable for you while also diminishing it’s tendency to be EVERYWHERE for you to confront. In short; this should make your first list more available to you.

Interestingly enough, the third Principle of Tantra is that; once you have removed the “judgement” against both sides of the human mirror, YOU WILL BEGIN TO SEE “BEYOND” THE HUMAN WORLD.. into the World of “the gods.”

    OUR DIVIDED PEOPLES

One of the most common beginning-points for Tantric studies is the basic fact that our species is divided into TWO GENDERS. Sexuality and how it grows is an essential part of this science. For instance: if you are a Man, you may “Love” Women and spend much of your time competing with other Men for Women’s attention. THOSE ARE THE TWO “SIDES” OF YOUR MIRROR. Tantra advises you to find a more Universal view of reality; and learn to ‘melt-into’ your fellow man. not only will this broaden your self-understanding, it will also make you far more enjoyable for BOTH genders to be around.

If you happen to be a homosexual, you may think yourself already “past” all such mirror-opposites; yet you, too, may be surrounded by DIS-similar lifestyles that trouble you and detract from your self-definition and happiness.. and THAT is YOUR Two-Sided Mirror.

SEXUAL TANTRA begins with learning to LOVE whatever you Love, while still also Loving everyone ELSE enough to let-down your barriers, and ‘melt’ into them as “similars.” SURE, THIS WILL CHANGE YOU! Whatever you melt-into “rubs-off” on you. But it ALSO ‘disarms’ things that may have previously really BOTHERED or HURT you. Being willing to out-grow our Barriers is crucial to Tantric Self-Union.

    Sexual Tantra

Many people come to Tantric studies expecting (or at least HOPING!,) to find something similar to ‘the Kama Sutra;’ a graphic, detailed and “permanent” form of sexual liberty which will serve them as a sort of ‘approved’ harem. WELL AND GOOD! Certainly Tantra CAN begin that way.. and frequently does. But Tantra means “melting together:” and sooner or later, one discovers that one is becoming very much “like” the objects of one’s original desires. Having spent enough time in their Tantric Embrace, one has both ‘rubbed-off’ on one’s Lovers (making them somehow slightly less ‘desireable’ in many cases,) AND they have rubbed-off on YOU (making you considerably less “like” your former self-opinion.) Tantra is NOT a “permanent” sexual relationship.. but a permanent SPIRITUAL relationship, between oneself and the rest of Life.. a relationship learned through ‘rubbing-off’ on each other until truly “at one” with them. In the long run, Sex is a PERSONAL way of having pleasure; Relating is (at best) a PLEASURABLE way of having People around. Learning how to balance this into non-“ownership” and “expectation”-free LOVING of all people’s freedom is the life’s work of every Tantrist.

Those who have accomplished this remarkable ‘balancing act’ of unifying not only both sexual genders but oneself and one’s Beloved into a ‘new’ lifestyle of Tantric Unity are no longer purely ‘human’ personalities, but something far more vast and lasting than that. Asian philosophies call this Unified Self “ISHVARA.”

    Divine Tantra

DIVINE TANTRA emerges within us when we have ‘cleaned our Mirror’ through improved sexual and relationship skills enough to allow the ‘god’ within each person to be glimpsed. As we improve our clarity and ability to “see through” all humanity to the spirit within, we begin to Tantra with GOD.. and our definition (and EXPERIENCE) of reality is massively expanded. Tantrists experience “God” as THE BELOVED hidden within all of Life, and waiting only for us to grow strong-enough to meet ‘him’ (AND her!,) in the mirror of our own passions and pleasures.

Those who do not yet realize that there really IS something ‘sacred’ in the Universe, have simply never yet LOVED deeply-enough; for Love is the seed from which spirituality and divinity grow. Those who do not yet know how to Love also do not yet know ANYTHING ‘sacred;’ and those who DO Love ARE themselves sacred.. and see that in all others as well.

You do not need a ‘Teacher’ or ‘manual’ to teach you about Tantra*. Hearing the basic Premise and Principles is itself quite enough to stimulate the Tantric process. However, since there ARE many well-documented challenges, phases and details within the Tantric Path, you might find it helpful to have a support-system to help with those details. One fine bit of advice in selecting a Teacher might be; SELECT SOMEONE WHO IS PART OF WHAT YOU ALREADY LOVE. Someone of your own current sexual preference and lifestyle is a generally good idea.

If you do not want a ‘live’ Teacher but could still benefit from additional Teachings, may we suggest you click on the word ‘Books‘ below.. or visit your local New Age book dealer.

*this post has been modified from it’s original version and was republished on 8/1/2024 with new and improved graphics!

    Perhaps you feel lost? Confused?

Uncertain of your place in the world, and why you are here?

Maybe your life seems like a constant series of ‘one step forward, two steps back.’ You make plans, and even though you try your hardest, something always goes wrong. Every day there are new hurdles, and the growing frustration that you feel inside tells you something isn’t quite right.

Maybe that is why you ended up here, on this blog post, looking for answers.

You probably have heard of the Law of Attraction. It’s possible you have even read the book, The Secret, that elevated the concept into the mainstream.

The Secret is a great book about the Law of Attraction. Get your copy on Amazon! *paid link

Unfortunately, the book and its bandwagon of positive affirmers have seriously neglected to inform followers that The Law of Attraction is just one of twelve Universal Laws that govern all of creation.

    • A Closer Look

    History of The Laws

This is not newly discovered information. Documentation of these laws, and lists similar to this one, have been found in cultures all around the world. Historians argue they originate from Ancient Egyptian culture. After studying the Hermetic Principles, it is easy to see how they are a very likely foundation for the 12 Universal Laws as I have listed below.

Even older than Ancient Egypt, the earliest recording of similar universal concepts can be traced back to ancient Hawaii. An ancient Hawaiian healing practice known as Ho’oponopono focuses on forgiveness and spiritual cleansing, which are two very important underlying themes in this list.

    The Laws and Synchronicity

I first came across the list of Universal Laws as I was writing my book. This was a dark period in my life indeed. As I began to incorporate them in my day to day life, I began to notice strange coincidences happening more and more frequently. Now I realize those coincidences are called synchronicities.

Synchronicities are signs from the divine realm that you are on the right path, that you are coming into alignment with your true purpose. Embracing these laws and adapting thoughts and behaviors to reflect them opens the door for the true essence of magick.

    The Laws of the Universe

The greatest tools I can give you are those that make you stop and think about whether or not you are living in alignment with your true self.

I love this quote from Socrates!

Each of the laws require you to reflect and analyze yourself to see how your thoughts and actions have contributed to your current situation. Mastering these concepts will help you unlock the secrets to success and live a happier life. Even just acknowledging them will start to make a difference in how you feel.

That sounds pretty good right? Keep reading to learn more about each of these 12 universal laws, and how you can put them into action to work for you!

    1. Law of Divine Oneness

We are one with each other. We are one with the universe.

The Universal Law of Divine Oneness: We are one with each other. We are one with the Universe.

This law is the foundational concept of interconnectedness upon which all the other laws are built. No matter if you think of “it” as God, Allah, Elohim, The Universe, Zero Point Energy, etc. we are all creations of one divine source. It makes no difference where you were born, how you were raised, or what you believe. We are all human, and beyond the physical body and senses, our souls are intertwined more than you could imagine!

    2. Law of Vibration

Everything is made of energy that vibrates at frequencies.

The Universal Law of Vibration: Everything is in constant motion, vibrating at a specific frequency.

Everything (every atom, object, and living thing) is in constant motion, vibrating at a specific frequency. Anything that exists in our universe, whether seen or unseen, when broken down into and analyzed in its purest and most basic form, consists of pure energy or light which resonates and exists as a vibratory frequency or pattern. All matter has its own vibrational frequency. In order to materialize something, you must first match the vibration of what you want.

    3. Law of Action

    Action is essential.

The Universal Law of Action: Action is Essential.

It is not enough to simply focus your attention on a goal or a desire, you must take action! We must engage in actions that support our desires and dreams. You are not likely to find what you are looking for by sitting at home. This means accepting opportunities and offers as life presents them to you. Taking steps forward takes courage and wit, but it is worth the benefits that will come along from accepting things with a grateful heart.

    4. Law of Correspondence

As above, so below. As within, so without. As with the universe, so with the soul.

The Universal Law of Correspondence: As Above, So Below. As Within, So Without.

Everything has a corresponding counterpart. Different levels of reality exist in the universe and we refer to these different levels as dimensions or planes. These planes- physical, mental, spiritual- exist in continuum. There is always a correspondence between the laws and phenomena of the various planes. Changes at one level affect all the other levels in the same fashion.

What’s going on inside of us corresponds with our external circumstances. Your internal environment is a direct reflection of your external environment. There is a direct correspondence between what you think and feel on the inside, and what you experience on the outside.

    5. Law of Cause and Effect

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

The Universal Law of Cause and Effect. Every Action Has an Equal and Opposite eaction.

Every thought, word, and deed is a Cause that vibrates out into the world, setting into motion a chain of events, creating in its wake Effects. Every cause has an effect, and every effect becomes the cause of something new.

The choices we make, whether conscious or unconscious, are all causes that will produce a corresponding effect. All thoughts lead to words and words lead to behaviors or actions. All actions have consequences, as do all inactions. These consequences can be positive or negative, and this is based largely on the intention behind the actions.

    6. Law of Compensation

What you sow is what you shall reap.

The Universal Law of Compensation: What You Reap Is What You Sow.

Eventually the vibratory energy sent out with our actions will return to its source, like the swing of a pendulum. Compensation is the visible effects of your deeds, but this does not only mean our physical actions. Our thoughts, emotions, and intentions also create compensation for us. All the effort you give, the actions you take, the things you think and say and do will all determine how you will be compensated. We receive exactly the reward or punishment we deserve.

    7. Law of Attraction

That which is like, unto itself is drawn.

The Universal Law of Attraction: That Which Is Like Unto Itself Is Drawn.

You attract the things, events, and people into your life based on your overall energetic vibration. Our feelings, emotions, subconscious and conscious thoughts, beliefs, words, and actions all contribute to our vibrational frequency. Your habitual thought patterns and your dominant mental attitude determine your overall vibration.

Where your attention goes, your energy flows. If you focus on the negatives in life, you will attract more negative. When you consistently maintain a positive outlook and a grateful attitude, you will attract more positive experiences.

    8. Law of Perpetual Transmutation

Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only changed.

The Universal Law of Perpetual Transmutation: Energy Cannot Be Created or Destroyed, Only Changed.

Energy is constantly changing, transferring, or transmuting into something different. It is always in a state of motion. The energy of the universe is constantly changing into and out of form. It is flowing into our consciousness constantly, and we can transform this energy into whatever we choose to focus our thoughts on.

All persons have within themselves the power to change the conditions of their lives. Higher frequencies transform lower frequencies. Whenever we have a thought, that is energy in our bodies becoming manifest. In order to bring this energy into reality, we must keep our thoughts and vibrations consistent.

    9. Law of Relativity

Nothing in life has meaning, except for the meaning we give it.

The Universal Law of Relativity: Your Perception Creates Your Reality.

Everything in our physical world is only made real by its relationship or comparison to something. Therefore, everything is relative. Light only exists because we compare it to dark. Good can only exist if there is a ‘bad’ to compare it to. It is your judgment and perception that makes things look good or bad.

    10. Law of Polarity

Opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree.

The Universal Law of Polarity: Everything Has Its Poles, Its Pair of Opposites.

Everything exists in dual nature in the physical and mental realms. Everything has its pole. The polar ends are both extremes of the same continuum. There is not one point where you can say one starts and the other begins, it is a full spectrum.

You cannot have one side of the continuum without the existence of and potential for the opposite. Consider the dual outcomes when you flip a coin. The two sides may appear separate, but they are two inseparable sides of the same thing. When the coin is in the air, there is the potential for it to land heads up, or tails up.

    11. Law of Rhythm

    Everything moves to certain rhythms

The Universal Law of Rhythm: Everything Flows, Out and In; Everything Has Its Tides; All Things Rise and Fall.

These rhythms establish seasons, cycles, stages of development, patterns. Some say the energy of the Universe is like a pendulum, but recently science has proven the cycles of the universe are more like a spiral.

The meaning you give to events in your life determine what you think and how you feel about them, which in turn creates another rhythm within your life. With this knowledge, you can reflect and determine whether you were the cause of a downward spiral, or was it just the natural rhythm?

    12. Law of Gender

Everything in nature contains within itself feminine and masculine energies.

The Universal Law of Gender. Everything In Nature Contains Feminine and Masculine Energies.

Everything in nature is both male and female. Both are required for life to exist. The gender principles exist as feminine, or yin, and masculine, or yang energies. Yin energies are passive, receptive, intuitive, and soft. Yang energies, in contrast, are active, projective, logical, and hard.

On the mental plane, the conscious mind is masculine and the subconscious mind is feminine. In order to unite these principles, you must understand that whether you are male or female, you hold both gender principles within. Every male has the components of female energy within his being, and every female has components of the male energy within her being. The key to harmonizing these principles is balance.

    Embrace the Laws

These immutable Universal Laws should be used as guiding principles as you navigate life in today’s complex and chaotic world. Each of the laws teach you something about the big questions in life. When you have a greater understanding of them, you are able to see your own place in the world more clearly. Becoming aware of their influence will help lead to positive, long-lasting change in your life.

It may sound far fetched right now, but I assure you that embracing these laws in your own life will open you up to a whole new world of possibilities. Many who have followed this path report feeling more confident and productive as they spend more time reflecting on themselves and learning their place in the world.
