Yesterday afternoon I tried perilla, called kkaennip in Korean, for the first time. I planted some in a a pot this spring after learning that it was a traditional Korean remedy for allergies and asthma. I had thought that it was the same as shiso, but shiso is a varietal (var. crispa) and it looks a bit different.*

I made the tea by putting about a 1/4 of fresh, crushed leaves in a cup of water and microwaving until boiling, then steeped for 10 min. It tasted okay; a bit like lemon balm with licorice/anis, cumin and a tiny bit of cinnamon.

Last night I had the best sleep I've had in a long time. Better than the effect from lemon balm or tulsi. Hope there's no tolerance issues.
