#MountainMonday North Face of #Kangchenjunga. North Ridge (rising from the pass on the left and culminating in the sharp peak in the middle of the photo) was climbed by Peter Boardman, Dough Scott and Joe Tasker in 1979. For an exquisitly written description of that climb read Boardman's 'Sacred Summits'.

"The official name of this peak is Kumbhakarna, but the designation Jannu is still better known. It is called Phoktanglungma by the native population, literally "mountain with shoulders" (phoktang means "shoulder" and lungma means "mountain"), in the Limbu language, and is sacred in the yuma religion." .. < https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kumbhakarna_Mountain

Took this picture on my trek towards #Kangchenjunga #Pangpema base camp.

East face is lit and the North infamous "Wall of Shadows" is indeed in the shadow. A deep gorge of the Kumbakharna glacier is visible below.
