Una truffa grande come una montagna. L’Everest, per essere precisi. Sarebbe quella perpetrata ai danni delle compagnie di assicurazione da 32 persone tra scerpa che accompagnano i ricchi scalatori (spesso impreparati) sul monte, piloti degli elicotteri di soccorso e medici degli ospedali alle falde della montagna.
Il meccanismo, che avrebbe coinvolto almeno 5mila escursionisti tra il 2022 e il 2025, era semplice: a un certo punto dell’ascensione, quando i turisti iniziavano a sentire i primi sintomi del mal di montagna (stordimento e nausea) le guide somministravano loro carbonato di sodio, che, invece di alleviare il malessere, lo accentuava. A quel punto convincevano gli scalatori della domenica a farsi soccorrere dall’elicottero e a farsi ricoverare. In quel modo gli ospedali, grazie a referti manipolati, potevano richiedere ricchissime parcelle alle assicurazioni e quindi dividere i proventi con i complici.
Nepal, almeno 171 salvataggi “sospetti”
Le indagini della polizia dimostrano che queste agenzie hanno truffato almeno 19,69 milioni di dollari in risarcimenti assicurativi ai danni di turisti. I dettagli forniti dalla polizia indicano che la Mountain Rescue Service P. Ltd. ha organizzato 171 “salvataggi sospetti” su un totale di 1.248 interventi di soccorso. Organizzando false operazioni di salvataggio in collaborazione con gli ospedali, avrebbe truffato oltre 10 milioni di dollari.
La società Nepal Chapter Service P. Ltd è accusata di aver sottratto 8,2 milioni di dollari, mentre Everest Experience and Assistance si è intascata 1,1 milioni di dollari.

A massive scam, like Mount Everest. To be precise, it was perpetrated against insurance companies by 32 individuals – sherpas accompanying wealthy climbers (often unprepared), helicopter pilots of rescue services, and doctors of hospitals at the foot of the mountain.
The mechanism, which involved at least 5,000 hikers between 2022 and 2025, was simple: at a certain point of the ascent, when tourists began to experience the first symptoms of altitude sickness (dizziness and nausea), the guides administered sodium carbonate, which, instead of alleviating the discomfort, exacerbated it. At that point, they convinced weekend climbers to request a helicopter rescue and hospitalization. In this way, hospitals, thanks to manipulated reports, could request enormous fees from insurance companies and thus share the profits with the accomplices.
Nepal, at least 171 “suspect” rescues
Police investigations show that these agencies defrauded at least $19.69 million in insurance claims from tourists. The details provided by the police indicate that Mountain Rescue Service P. Ltd. organized 171 “suspect” rescues out of a total of 1,248 rescue operations. By organizing false rescue operations in collaboration with hospitals, it defrauded over $10 million.
The company Nepal Chapter Service P. Ltd. is accused of having stolen $8.2 million, while Everest Experience and Assistance pocketed $1.1 million.

Ha del clamoroso ciò che è stato scoperto dalla polizia nepalese: alcune guide del Monte Everest sono state accusate, a seguito di un’indagine, di aver avvelenato segretamente alpinisti stranieri. Con quale scopo?
