A federal judge has sentenced a Massachusetts Air National Guard member to 15 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to leaking highly classified military documents about the war in Ukraine. Jack Teixeira pleaded guilty earlier this year to six counts of willful retention and transmission of national defense information under the Espionage Act. He apologized in court shortly before sentencing Tuesday by U.S. District Jude Indira Talwani. Prosecutors had requested a nearly 17-year sentence and the defense, 11 years. It was the most consequential U.S. security breach in years and forced the U.S. government to scramble to try to contain the diplomatic and military fallout of Teixeira's actions.
