We are entirely run by volunteers and financed exclusively by membership fees and donations. If you like what we do and want us to continue or even broaden and intensify our efforts to inform about the cryosphere and bring people together who care about glaciers, consider sending us a donation - any little bit helps. You can find the link in our bio.

We wish you and your loved ones happy holidays and all the best for 2026.

Glacier melt feeds rivers that nourish forests, wetlands, farms and cities. But with shrinking ice, seasonal rhythms change and water availability becomes unpredictable for people and wildlife alike. On International Mountain Day, we celebrate the richness and fragility of mountain ecosystems and spotlight the need for climate action, habitat protection, and respect for the cultures tied to these heights.

From sharing stories of ice falls and tropical glaciers to highlighting periglacial cultures and alpine ecosystems, we were part of the global effort to make the cryosphere visible, relatable, and worth fighting for. Thank you for being here with us. Here’s to 2026: a year of action, preservation, and hope.

2025 is a year of big moments and hard truths. COP30, the 10-year anniversary of the Paris Accords, and the UN International Year of Glacier's Preservation all coincide.

Time to make ourselves heard! Glaciers are not just distant scenery but water towers and living ecosystems for billions!

Join FfF Berlin and Glacierwatch at the Global Climate Strike on November 14 Nov at 4pm CET at Pariser Platz, Berlin

✊ We fight for glaciers. We fight for climate justice. We fight for women. Because when glaciers disappear, so do livelihoods. And when women lead, solutions follow.

An unpublished study reveals a significant decline in glaciers on a global scale

Since 2000, the world's glaciers have lost 5% of their initial volume, and 273 billion tonnes of ice are disappearing every year - the equivalent of 3 Olympic swimming pools per second. These are the results of an in-depth study of the global evolution of glaciers (excluding the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets) between 2000 and 2023, based for the first time on a combination of field measurements and satellite observations.
