One use of our new WM-6 is to look at soil moisture. Recent storms in Montana and Alberta have moistened the ground but conditions are quite dry west of the Cascades and in the Upper Midwest.

Note that "well above average" in the Desert Southwest isn't much. That area is so dry that almost any water creates significant above average anomalies.
