Taking a look at my io9 RSS Feed this morning, tends to leave me questioning the value of it.

Around 82 posts in the last 24 hours of which 61 have been blocked for either containing US Politics, or straight up US advertising (Labor Day deals anyone?).

Only 25% of the website posts are meeting the original vision of the site being science fiction pop culture.

Ugh. Gizomodo is run by a bunch of morons. Last week they changed the primary domain path to their io9 branded content. It used to be io9.gizmodo.com but now it is gizmodo.com/io9. Not a huge deal on its own. But the problem is they forgot to create a redirect for the path they have been using for over 2 years to point to the new location. How dumb can they be?

(Corrected the previous post to show this happened at #io9, not the #gizmodo front page, because THAT'S WHAT JOURNALISTS DO: own their mistakes and fix them.)
Consider this piece from the #washingtonpost about horrible mistakes made by #gizmodo's #io9 vertical. One was adopting AI before it was ready for prime time in general, but *deciding* to publish an AI-written story in a field with as devoted a fanbase as #Starwars with no room for editorial control except an email *to the responsible editor who had no idea this story was even being written* 10 minutes before the story ran is a punishable offense in journalism IMO. https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2023/07/08/gizmodo-ai-errors-star-wars/
How an AI-written Star Wars story created chaos at Gizmodo

A Gizmodo story on Star Wars, generated by artificial intelligence, was riddled with errors. The irony that the problem happened at a tech publication was undeniable.

This is just one #tweet among a long thread written by the author of the #IO9 article, but this one grabbed me more than the others. https://twitter.com/lincodega/status/1611021444405755908?t=Bmrl80x_SLWPFql5nepx5A&s=19

“My source indicated that this was originally supposed to go live Jan 4, and people would have until Jan 13 to agree. Jan 13 is cited in the document I received. If true, WotC was planning to give only 7 business days for people to adjust and respond, and, presumably, agree.”
