A open protocol is an agreement between services, about how to interoperate. It's the technical equivalent of diplomatic protocols, agreements worked out between countries about how to peacefully interact with each other.

Interoperability is the defining feature of the fediverse. Without all the social software and protocols allowing us to talk to people on different servers from the ones we use, there wouldn't be a fediverse. Just thousands of tiny, lonely planets, with no way of communicating with each other.

I ask, are there community run multi-protocol-servers?

I mean the way that i could set up an chatroom on them that is accesible for #XMPP users on an XMPP address,
for #MatrixMessenger user on an Matrix address,
perhaps also for these who prefer Telegram to connect to an Telegram bot an be part of the same chatroom,
perhpas also accessible as an #IRC server channel as well

Why is everyone so enamored with pointer devices in modern software when it's just worse usability in basically every way?

Why do so few pay any attention to #interoperation and #composability?

Having to use pointer-moving & image recognition to use #GUI programs in a pipeline or workflow is just stupid and would be completely unnecessary if they were properly designed.

#TIL there is a matrix <> Mastodon bridging bot written in Java:
https://matrix.org/bridges/#mastodon

Has anyone experienced this, as an end user on either end of the bridge, or as a server admin connecting it? Is it getting much use? Does anyone know which protocol(s) are used by the bot to operate the bridge?
