"A human lying in his bed, blinded by the light of thousands of fireflies, trespassing from outside through a window"

What happens to every species living close to human activity every night is shown the other way round in this bing create interpretation. The human has no other way to find sleep as to cover his eyes. Nevertheless he seems to be exhausted and distressed.

So it is with our insects, our birds, rodents, bats and all other species which either need sleep or darkness for their living, but get disturbed, blinded or fear to be eaten by foragers.

Let's get them and us some relief and let's switch lights off - and when this is not possible, turn down lights, use warm colors and low intensity following the #ROLAN approach.

Good night.

For this year's International Dark Sky Week, I'm joining forces with the International Dark-Sky Association to present highlights of the updated "State Of The Science" report along with a dark-sky trivia game. Our event will be held at 2100 UTC (5pm EDT) Tuesday, 18th April. It will be livestreamed on both Facebook and YouTube at the links below. We hope to see you there!

Today marks three important events that deserve our attention:

1. It's the start of International Dark Sky Week, a global event that encourages us to switch off unnecessary lights at night to reduce light pollution and protect our natural environment. Let's all do our part to preserve the beauty of our night sky!

2. Today is also the last day of nuclear power in Germany. While some may fear the potential for power outages, it's important to remember that Germany has been investing heavily in renewable energy sources and is well-equipped to handle this transition.

3. Unfortunately, the end of #EnSikuMaV, a temporary law in Germany that required the switching off of ad billboards and public illumination of buildings and monuments to save energy, also falls on this day. It's ironic that just as we say goodbye to nuclear power, we are allowing for increased power consumption through lighting once again.

Let's use this day as a reminder of the importance of responsible energy usage and the role we can all play in protecting our planet.

The sky and its beauty is endangered by our activities on earth and in orbit. Because of artificial light at night from our streets, houses and stadiums and because of hundreds of thousands of satellites to be put into space over the next decade for communication, earth observation, navigation and celebration.
We’re losing contact to our place in the universe.
Join the #darksky movement and speak up against #lightpollution.
