New Moon = Sea of Stars hence the Dark Sky name (if you are lucky you might see the Milky Way... but best chances are at best places)
Humans adore the full moon, but few appreciate how it changes the rest of the night sky. It's nature's biggest light polluter. There's really no point poring over light pollution maps or carefully choosing a Dark Sky Place if you ignore the phases of the moon, because if it's bright, it will overwhelm all but the brightest stars.

At the western edge of the Panhandle, Black Mesa is Oklahoma's highest point and one of its darkest. Late last year, the state park here became the state's first certified International Dark Sky Place.
M81 - Bode's Galaxy and M82 - Cigar Galaxy
A pair of interacting galaxies in the constellation Ursa Major approx 11.5 million light years away. M82 is undergoing furious star formation because of the gravitational interaction with M81.
