Yes, the #SilentWar on progressives is intense still to this day, the West have refined #gaslighting and vilifying, mostly labeling a public figure who opposes the #corporatists as a #rapist and/or #misogynist. They did that even against #KevinRudd in #Australia.
In the 1930s they were '#industrialists', but in today's era of #hyperFinancialisation we prefer the term '#corporatist", especially over positive-sounding terms like '#neoliberal'.

Yes, one of the single greatest ills of the past decades is the growth in #rentseeking.
Technology appears to be accelerating the growth in #rents.
At the individual level it may be beneficial to enact a MaximumRentalIncome as they have in Germany.
Another option is an exponentally growing #landTax.
We may have started to use the phrase #hyperFinancialisation.

Short Selling is selling something you don't actually own, its a bit like #fraud and comes under the banner of #financialisation. It's built around being destructive rather than productive.
