#Rents along the Elizabeth line have risen faster than the wider London market since the line’s full opening in May 2023, according to research by Benham and Reeves. Average rents near Elizabeth line stations are now £2,122 per month, up 13.3%, compared with a 10.1% rise across London. Growth has been strongest outside the capital, where rents have increased by 14.6% against 12.9% for London-based stations. Iver in Buckinghamshire leads with a 40.9% surge, followed by Reading (36.7%) and Chadwell Heath (32.3%). Central #London areas such as Paddington, Tottenham Court Road and Bond Street have also seen strong rises. Only Twyford (-8%) and West Ealing (-0.2%) have recorded declines. Director Marc von Grundherr said the Elizabeth line has reshaped rental demand by improving connections to central London, with demand expected to remain high as more workers return to offices.

Insane that people are commuting 300 km round trips, taking 3 hours a day, all because they cannot afford to live where they study or work.

I used to do a 4 hour round trip each day and for a few years it was endurable but gradually it started to eat away at my health.

Not just the time spent travelling but the time not spent exercising, relaxing, socialising, getting fresh air and light.

And it's such an unpleasant experience. You can never get away from the fact that you're trapped in a small space - often a very crowded space. Even worse if you have an issue with crowds & enclosed spaces.

Not to mention the fact that you end up catching so many viruses.
