On a sailing trip 🩵 Our boat club (the workers' sailing club of Helsinki, old school and not fancy at all) has a little island in the Porvoo archipelago. To sail here comfortably, takes (us at least) about 8 hours. So we often split the trip for 2 days and get to enjoy other islands.

Life in the archipelago is unique, and a handful of people live here all year round. Many people have their summer houses here, so summers must be a completely different world... Most of the archipelago areas in Finland are Swedish-speaking, and as the Finnish-Swedish community tends to be very social, they just must help each other through the rough winters.

The sea is stunning. It's lovely in clear sunshine, in the evenings, during rain and storm... We've been lucky with a lot of sunshine but unlucky with the winds. But we made it here in spite of the constant headwind 💪🌬

This season's first sail on my husband's sail boat. I'm quite afraid of sailing but this time the winds were mellow, we didn't go for a very long trip and it was all very nice.

The summer this far in Finland has been pretty chilly. Last year in England people were surprised when I told them that yes, we have proper summers in Finland. Thank goodness nobody is visiting us this summer because it seems to become one of these no-summer summers. But the last 10 years it's been hot and dry! So even if we humans would like less rain and more heat, I'm sure all the plants and wildlife are quite satisfied with this kind of summer 💙🌍
