Had a really odd dream just before I woke up this morning.
I dreamt that I was at the restaurant where the Anglican Men's Bible Study I used to go to would meet for breakfast (and Bible Study, natch), and the leader of the group saw me, and said, "Hey, are you coming to group?"
I said, "Oh, actually, I'm here to meet someone else..."
Ok, I have to explain that I initially found this group because I was literally looking for a different bible study that had changed venues without me realizing it (a couple years ago). I was looking around, and this Anglican group of men invited me to join them, and I really enjoyed fellowshipping with them, and continued to do so for a couple years.
The thing is, there is a pretty strong streak of conservatism among this group (the whole reason there's an "Anglican" denomination in the USA is that the conservative churches broke away from the Episcopalian denomination, IIRC). It wasn't so bad until someone mentioned Charlie Kirk after his unfortunate* assassination. And then, I really struggled to keep going. Also, one of the guys there wears an IDF t-shirt, and wants to get a job with the DHS. Egad, no.
* Please don't be so utilitarian that you don't see a murder as bad. That's a dark road to go down, friends.
I have to explain that all of these guys are super warm and super real with their faith. They're kind and decent people. But man, that streak of conservatism. It's... I'm allergic to it.
So, in the dream, I'm meeting someone who's possibly a trans kid or something, who's working on some kind of gloriously bodgy electronics project, and I'm having a hard time talking to them, because my bible study friends are kinda crowding me.
One of the guys (not someone I know in real life, but vaguely resembling the IDF guy (who actually served with the IDF, Kyrie Eleison)) came up, and someone else said, "Hey my nazi brother!"
(He didn't look like the IDF guy except for the fact that he was bald)
And I was like, "Wait, is he actually a nazi?!?"
And someone said, "Nooo, he's not really a nazi, are you," and the not-really-nazi guy shook his head.
Umm... WEIRD dream.
Oh, and I woke up right around the time that I normally would've gotten ready to go to their Wednesday morning breakfast.
It's really hard to know what to do with things like that. I mean, I totally get that my beloved progressives will be all like, "What do you mean WHAT TO DO?!? Those are horrible people!"
But the sad truth is... it's complicated. And I feel sad for shutting anyone out of my life. And yet, the whole experience really taxed me the last few months I was there.
I dunno, main. 🤷♂️
