📜 Re-evaluating the surname Lovibond!
The known textbook theory of "love-bond" (makes little sense for medieval landed gentry). A new research points to the #Viking Age in Norfolk's Danelaw.
The possible origin? The Old Norse Lófa-bóndi:
• Lófi: Flat palm, ritually placed on sacred silver rings or a rock to swear oaths at the Thing courts.
• Bóndi: Free, weapon-bearing squire/judge.
A Lófa-bóndi was therefore an "Oath-Sworn Legal Surety".
