I should actually add that on my way home from this ride, a young person passed me in Railtown, did a double-take, then started screaming obscenities at me. They started with "Nice keffiyeh, fucker!" which I ignored and kept riding to the stop sign while they kept screaming behind me, "Get over here, mother fucker! I'm a Jew, right here, you mother fucking Jew hater! Come hate on me, mother fucker!" I ignored them the entire time, and didn't even give them a glance back (thankfully I could hear by their screams that they were a safe enough distance away that I didn't have to watch out for them jumping me from behind).
Now understand clearly what is happening here. I'm a complete stranger, minding my own business and riding home, when somebody sees me wearing an item of clothing of cultural significance. One which is worn by Arabs of many flavours, from Palestinians to Lebanese to Iranians, all of whom are targets of hate by Israel, and under Israeli occupation, apartheid discrimination. Simply seeing this article of clothing sends this person into a seething rage. Nobody is "hating Jews". Nobody has shown this person hate. Nobody has said anything offensive to this person. The hate is entirely one-sided.
It feels unfathomable, until you understand the incredible indoctrination that Israel has put on young Jews living in diaspora, claiming Jewish heritage as grounds to spread Zionist propaganda and Islamophobia. You need to get a taste for yourself the indoctrination that these people have been subjected to for generations:
