When I was younger I was accustomed to seeing ‘wild’ moorland and thinking that’s just the way it was - natural, beautiful in its own way. Now I am better informed and this sight makes me sad and angry. Petition: Ban driven grouse shooting

Chris Packham, Ruth Tingay and Mark Avery (Wild Justice) believe that driven grouse shooting is bad for people, the environment and wildlife. People; we think grouse shooting is economically insignificant when contrasted with other real and potential uses of the UK’s extensive uplands.

#Environment; muirburn contributes to #climate breakdown and drainage leads to flooding and erosion. Wildlife; the wholesale extermination of predators has a disastrous impact on the #ecology of these areas and the criminal practice of #RaptorPersecution has taken place. We believe it's time to provide an opportunity to implement immediate and meaningful measures to address what we see as an abhorrently destructive practice so that recovery of #moorlands can progress.

The Guardian

A smidgeon of good news, thanks to the Scottish Green Party, which was instrumental in passing the Wildlife Management and Muirburn Act while in coalition government with the Scottish National party.

The glorious 12th isn't so glorious for grouse-shooting, now the act has come into effect. This cruel and environmentally damaging 'sport' has had its wings clipped.

“The Glorious Twelfth” — A Tradition Under Scrutiny

The moors were eerily silent in this morning, a stark departure from the cacophony of gunfire that might be expected to reverberate across the heather today. Not a single report echoed in the air, just an eerie silence that draped the landscape like a shroud. Even the normally noisy grouse seem to sense an awareness of th ...

The evidence linking [some] grouse-shooting moor estates and wildlife crime is overwhelming. Influence (in parliament) and money have changed the ‘sport’ to an industry. It’s another of the UK’s shameful hidden corruption.
