Today in Labor History June 23, 1751: Gregoria Apaza, Indigenous Aymara rebel leader, was born in Bolivia. In 1781 she led a largescale Indigenous revolt against Spanish colonial rule, along with her brother Julian Apaza (Tupac Katari) and her sister-in-law Bartolina Sisa. They laid siege to La Paz and Sorata before the Spanish were able to quash the rebellion. They executed her the following year, at the age of 31.
