I planted some more hazelnuts and swamp white oak today. Unfortunately it seems the rabbits have discovered my previous plantings and are managing to poke their heads through the mesh.

They've already destroyed about 6 hazelnuts and 4 or 5 swamp white oak.

So i double netted the ones i planted today, and I took several large steps away from the trail, to avoid making a trail they can follow to get to the plants. That will hopefully increase the survivability.

But yeah hunting season is soon, so I'm planning to geh some live rabbit traps, cause rabbits generally only come out at night, but I can only harvest them in the daytime. So if any rabbit gets caught trying to get to the tree seedlings I can harvest it in daytime.

I also read they don't like pheremones of their predators, so am gonna try to get ermine pheremones or something.

Found some fox urine granules, guess that can work.
Here is an english-black walnut hybrid that I planted last year in a semi shaded wooded area. Seems to be doing quite well.

Went to Green Haven today to check on my plants, the vast majority of them are doing very well. A few of them had caging that was too tight or too tall so i released it.

I did have difficulty finding some plants due to the many wild flowers growing, but am sure they are still there.

All in all looking pretty good.

Okay so if I have a hundred, and there are 12 weeks. Then can sell four pairs of each species.

But yeah for official auctions they would probably want like a traditionally potted plant, to make it easy for the auctioneer to hold up.

Though the current fabric pots wrapped in plastic should suffice.

Gotta visit #greenhaven soon.
And release some over tight fencings on some of the trees.
Good news, pecans have survived a particularly cold winter in Owen Sound, hardiness zone 5b ish.
My butterfly bushes didn't make it this year though they had several previous years. So is how I know it was especially cold.
Anyhow can get the same ultra northern hardy pecan seeds this autumn and grow them to sell at the market next year. Am sure they will be a big hit, people love pecans.
