On the last day of the 2026 Great Backyard Bird Count i did finally count some birds, in someone elses backyard.

Not sure how to term this
A Murder witnessing a Murder or a Murder Wake

Saw about 30 House Crows (maybe more) very noisy & swirling , & and sitting in a somewhat orderly fashion on roof tops. They were upset. Walked a bit & found a older pup / young dog possessively guarding a dead crow. Pictures attached

Seems eBird turned on the filters for Great Backyard Bird Count.

All Northern flickers I've reported in southeast Michigan today are now considered rare.

Two days ago, I reported them without them being flagged as rare.

A Mistle Thrush (Turdus viscivorus) in the Lesser & Greater Himalayas. Not an easily seen bird but not uncommon in the right habitat or season

The latin Specific name "viscivorus" translates as Mistletoe eater (also the origins of its common english name). I am yet to see it forage on Himalayan mistletoe equivalents.

Winter Backyard Birding

Black oil sunflower seeds transformed my backyard into a small avian metropolis.

The Great Backyard Bird Count is taking place this weekend (14th-17th). It’s an international bird count meaning wherever you are you can take part!

If you already use Cornell Lab’s Merlin ID app or the eBird app your results will automatically be submitted over the weekend.

I missed the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch (the UK survey in January) so this is another chance to get involved.
