The ongoing demolition of the remaining facade of the 175 year old Union Corner Building following the fire which destroyed it. Soon, all that will be left is its outline on the neighbouring Central Hotel building, and it will have become another of Glasgow's ghost buildings.

A ghost building on Brunswick Street in the Merchant City area of Glasgow. This sort of scene always takes me back to the 1970s when so many older buildings were being demolished across the city.

Prints of this photo, and other shots of Glasgow's ghost buildings, are now available from my online shop at https://www.thisismyglasgow.com/product-category/ghost-buildings/

A ghost building on Robertson Street in Glasgow. I love all the different phases visible in the stone and brickwork.

Ghost building on the site of the original power station for the Glasgow Subway on Scotland Street. Opened in 1896, this is the third oldest subway in Europe and it was the first and only one driven by a cable system.

A ghost building on Oxford Street in the Laurieston area of Glasgow. I love the way the chimney flues seem to have been extended twice as the now-disappeared building was engulfed by larger neighbours.

Ghost building on Renfrew Lane in Glasgow. I love how the chimney of this building looks like it was extended upwards when the neighbouring building was constructed.

A ghost building on Robertson Street in Glasgow. I love all the different phases visible in the stone and brickwork, especially the window at the top right which is made from blonde sandstone and then has been half filled with red bricks and half with concrete blocks, presumably at different times. This effect may have taken between 100 and 150 years to create.

A ghost building in the Merchant City area of Glasgow. This sort of scene always takes me back to the 1970s when so many older buildings were being demolished in the city. You'd pass a street lined with tenements one day, and the next, some would be gone, leaving exposed fireplaces and a patchwork of lovingly decorated walls hanging in mid-air. Shortly after that, there'd be nothing but a pile of rubble with a gaping void above it where people had once lived.
