(white) friends kept recommending Horse by #GeraldineBrooks so I put a hold & then listened to it on my library app. Part way through I suspected I was reading Black characters written by a white woman and this Atlantic review gets at some of the ways in which that sucks. Sadly the first set of reviews I googled in NYT, WaPo, and Atlantic are all also written by white women. #Bookstodon #BooksofMastodon

The Atlantic

Finished the novel The Secret Chord (2015) by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Geraldine Brooks - The story of biblical King David told from the point of view of the prophet Nathan.

Certainly a page turner …

Thanks for the review. #GeraldineBrooks does a spectacular job with #HistoricalFiction! From another author, I'd be much more concerned about a white writer featuring main characters who are Black. However, her stories cut a very wide swath and I'm certain that she's researched the era very carefully.
