PSA: After the latest update of microG in LineageOS without GApps, Google Maps is working again.

(Yes, Google Maps is evil, but I haven't found an equivalent alternative for me yet. No suggestions please.)

One open questions is, what do we do instead of #gmail and #gapps? Overwhelemed with options with the obvious choice being #proton. I don't love the custom stack that it relies on, and I am tempted to find more vanilla services that include standard things like collabora office and #nextcloud, but I am not in love with those stacks as well.. this part feels the most sticky to me. #gapps have served us well and their ubiquity helps with collaboration with anyone.

Hey! How can inital #GPS finding satellites on my #LineageOS phone be sped up? I have no #gApps or #microG installed.

It takes sooooo long until I can use GPS for navigation.

Can someone guide me in the right direction?

Was mich derzeit noch mehr nervt - Apps on Android die #gapps vorraussetzen. Gerade im öffentlichen Sektor ist das für mich ein no-go.
Hier sollte alle Apps auch auf CustomROMs wie @LineageOS etc und ohne gapps laufen.

I am a #Linux beginner who recently purchased a near mint Google Pixel 3a XL with #LineageOS preinstalled. I am assuming the build is #Gapps, which I do not want. (This is why I haven't done anything with the phone yet; I would prefer that Google never know this phone exists.) I want to replace Gapps with #MicroG. Can anyone explain to me as if I was your 80-year-old grandma how to do this step by step? The worst thing about custom rom is you cann't use google apps and the best thing about custom rom is you are degoogled.

My #fairphone5 arrived today. The stock ROM I did try but there was way too many #GApps that I couldn't uninstall for my liking. I have installed @calyxos and have spent the afternoon installing apps and syncing with @nextcloud
