Hey! How can inital #GPS finding satellites on my #LineageOS phone be sped up? I have no #gApps or #microG installed.

It takes sooooo long until I can use GPS for navigation.

Can someone guide me in the right direction?

@tudbut I just don't bother eith shit that can't work on a #Linux #Desktop and #GAPPS-free #Android!

@kkarhan

I am a #Linux beginner who recently purchased a near mint Google Pixel 3a XL with #LineageOS preinstalled. I am assuming the build is #Gapps, which I do not want. (This is why I haven't done anything with the phone yet; I would prefer that Google never know this phone exists.) I want to replace Gapps with #MicroG. Can anyone explain to me as if I was your 80-year-old grandma how to do this step by step? I found this, but it assumes a lot of prior knowledge. https://xdaforums.com/t/guide-how-to-build-a-lineageos-based-custom-rom-with-microg.4762792/
[GUIDE] How to build a LineageOS based Custom ROM with MicroG

To use MicroG instead of the original GAPPS, Signature Spoofing must be enabled in the OS. LineageOS supports Signature Spoofing for MicroG in LineageOS 18.1 or newer since February 2025 -- see https://review.lineageos.org/q/topic:"microg-eval"...

The worst thing about custom rom is you cann't use google apps and the best thing about custom rom is you are degoogled.
#gapps #microg

@anthropy nodds in agreement

Not to mention the folks behind e/OS obviously need to ROI the cost of maintaining a custom Rom, since that takes more than "Just yoink the drivers and the Android sources, plop' in your APKs and yeet that on your device!" for the #developers!

  • IMHO I wished some folks would partner with gpl-violations.org and litigate the drivers out of vendors...

Cuz politely asking won't get you anywhere (ask @SexyCyborg about her experience trying to get the sources for a ROM of a device she bought!)...

@agatha and that's why there needs to be a fully-#FLOSS'd & functioning #Android distro/fork that supports as many devices as possible and.includes none of the #GAPPS and #Google Services...

@tranquil_cassowary @OpenComputeDesign @light @landley nodds in agreement

So the most effective means is to fill those #GAPPS "voids" with good #FLOSS that isn't spyware.

Does anyone know a good, #FLOSS-licensed implementation of the Android Managment API for non-#GAPPS / #degoogled devices that supports #eSIM provisioning?

Basically like #MiniLPA but #remote and on #Android or any #Linux.

  • I don't need like a complete eSIM issue infrastructure, but just something to i.e. push an eSIM profile (i.e. via ntfy to a device and make it install & activate / use it.

Not sure if #LucaWeiss or @LaF0rge have any ideas...
