A first order Fresnel lens built in Paris in 1906 for the Sambro Island Lighthouse — the oldest surviving lighthouse in North America, standing since 1758. It guided ships into Halifax Harbour for 60 years, was nearly scrapped in 1966, and was rescued by a curator at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. Some things deserve to survive.
