Ugh, such a smoky day. The sun is orange and you feel it in your throat pretty quickly out there.
I was surprised how variable it was yesterday. We left home for late breakfast in the morning, not smelling anything amiss, then 2km away were hit with the campfire smell upon getting out. Must be tendrils of smoky air flowing over the city.
Alberta is declaring an early start to the 2024 wildfire season. The province, announced Tuesday the fire season is now underway as a result of warmer-than-normal temperatures and below-average precipitation.
There are 54 forest fires burning in Alberta today. 52 of them started in 2023.
