Continuano i colpi di scena al Roland Garros: anche la numero 1 al mondo del ranking Wta Aryna Sabalenka è stata eliminata. Sabalenka ha perso ai quarti di finale dello Slam parigino, seconda prova stagionale tra i Major, in rimonta contro la russa Diana Shnaider, numero 23 del ranking Wta, che si è imposta in tre set con il punteggio di 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 in 2 ore e 14 minuti. Sabalenka, finalista lo scorso anno a Parigi, era in vantaggio 6-3, 5-3 prima di accusare un clamoroso blackout che l’ha portata a subire una serie di 10 game persi di fila. Per Shnaider è la prima semifinale in un torneo dello Slam, affronterà ora la polacca Maja Chwalinska.
Una sconfitta che ha dell’incredibile, se si considera che Sabalenka era in totale controllo della partita e stava servendo per il match. Esattamente come Sinner, ma a differenza del numero uno al mondo del ranking Atp, Sabalenka non ha avuto alcun malore o comunque non ha mostrato segni di sofferenza fisica. Di sicuro però la tennista bielorussa ha accusato il colpo e non è più riuscita a esprimersi al meglio sia perché il rendimento di Diana Shnaider è cresciuto nel tempo, sia per le folate di vento che hanno condizionato diversi punti, tant’è che Sabalenka ha commesso ben 57 errori gratuiti, di cui 17 nel terzo set e oltre 10 dal 5-3 del secondo. Vento che ha peraltro anche condizionato soprattutto la prima parte di match tra Flavio Coboli e Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Emblematico il gesto di stizza nel terzo set quando, dopo aver discusso animatamente con il proprio angolo, si è sfogata con una pallina che il raccattapalle le aveva appena passato. Gesto non accolto benissimo dal pubblico del Roland Garros che ha cominciato a fischiarla. Per Sabalenka è uno Slam – quello parigino – indigesto: la bielorussa ha vinto due volte gli Us Open e due volte gli Australian Open, ma mai Wimbledon e il Roland Garros.
