Tennis, it’s time for Monte Carlo. Sinner dreams of triumph to close the gap with Alcaraz.

The good weather, the beginning of spring, and it’s immediately time for Monte Carlo, the prestigious Masters 1000 tennis tournament overlooking the Mediterranean. One of the most sought-after appointments on the circuit, which inaugurates the clay season after the one on concrete that ended at the Indian Wells and Miami Open with the double triumph of Jannik Sinner. Results that have brought him closer to his rival Carlitos Alcaraz, now just less than 1,200 points apart. The number one Spanish player in the world will defend his title in Munich while Sinner, who was out of the game last year due to the Costelbol case, dreams of raising the trophy on clay for the first time.

“I haven’t yet won any ‘1000’s on clay but I’ve come close a couple of times. I can’t predict the future, but it would be great to win here… It’s a tournament I love to play and I’m happy to be there – Jan said at a press conference. We worked hard there and our efforts were rewarded. I heard that the long sessions in the Indian Wells sun helped me a lot and in the United States I had no difficulties. But on this surface we will have other answers.”

Challenges on clay change the type of fast game that opens up with the US Open. A different and “physically demanding” surface. With Alcaraz having to defend more than 4000 points during the clay season, Sinner now has excellent chances of returning to number one in the world before the Wimbledon tournament. “I am aware of the possible scenarios – he added – but when you are a top-level player your goal is to win trophies. I look more at the Race because it shows you how someone has played during the year.”

I prefer to forget the first commercial #pantomime I ever attended. It was in #Wimbledon and my #mother took my brother and I to see the show which starred Adam Faith. It was two hours with fingers in my ears trying to keep out the #screaming of all the older #teenage #girls in the audience.
