Some more green for your feed. Spent a few hours in the greenhouses yesterday doing some cleanup and shifting herbs and flowers from start trays to pottles where they will overwinter before heading outdoors.

Pretty much closed loop sufficient for nearly all of our edible, medicinal, bee fodder, and even some amenity herbs and flowers. Between collecting seed and encouraging volunteerism we try to keep fodder in borders and marginal growing spaces as much of the year as possible for our apian allies. Be #bee friendly!

A second/third crop of figs is going hard in the greenhouse. With a suss baseline climate region plus violent climate change, our large diy stick built with cheap 3rd grade mostly unwanted untreated timber greenhouses allow us to have consistent citrus, figs and olives, salads and more seed starting time.

The tobacco is flowering loud and proud, and so should we.

If you could use a splash of colour from some good things here is some early autumn #soilspondence

Had a few late summer frosts that knocked down a fair bit of fruiting and leafy veg. Impossible at our scale to frost protect the outer fields. The fruit trees were luckily unphased and we're continuously harvesting apples and the start of an absolute bumper crop of delicious pears.

Used the kneejerk shift to a week of very warm days, albeit very cold nights, to get winter greens and veg sprouted in the kitchen garden. If you are rural or semi rural, there are heaps of ends if rolls and offcuts of sheep mesh fencing about and it makes a super fast, sturdy and easy "micro" tunnel house form. With the downwind end opened got great day warmth yet ventilated and enough night protection to get winter radishes, spinaches, lettuces, greens, and roots off to a great start.

I missed peak colour and variety for a photo but twas a festive mushroom season in the timber orchard.

Stay vertical and garden hard!

the #soilspondence will continue until morale improves

I spent solid 15 minutes today taking pics of bee butts. No kink, tho no shame, just they move quick and it was delightful watching them go into deep flowers and almost like they are falling over a rail into them. They were singing so loud in the lavender I wanted to grab a decibel reading. A joyful noise. Be bee friendly and try and have some flower fodder for them as much of the year as possible. Apian Allies! #bees rock!

The overwintered cauliflower has just been infinite and awesome in a densely staggered spot a bit protected from the worst of this occasional summer. Best season ever for that.

I'm no photographer but I hope a close up of red gem lettuce adds a splash to your feed.

And enjoyed some of our many pollinator, medicinal and amenity beds and rows.

Stay vertical team and GARDEN HARD!

really bad at #soilspondence posts getting gardens and orchards ready for winter. Ground has been so saturated from monsoons but did get a peaceful few snowy hours yesterday where over 50mm did stick.

Other than the occasional chowderhead playing silly buggers and meeting the ditch out on the road, was very satifying crunch under foot and Doom Kitty the void snow panther couldn't stop going out for a much safer hoon of her own then warming by the fire.

3 years ago now, I had the extreme pleasure by the trust afforded me from a mostly feral friend we helped to raise these amazing fluffy balls of awesome. Once old enough for their shots and checks we found them a wonderful loving family who recently lost their fur friend for a forever home for them together. They are siblings to our void best friend Doom Kitty who has 473 job titles here on the farm and is a regular in my #fedifarm posts

Happy #caturday and stay vertical out there friends.

Some #soilspondence from a sunny day I mostly worked on firewood and slashed comfrey for orchard and compost feeding.

The bumbles were LOVING the flowering oregano. We've already cut 2 crops for drying so we are happy to have it flower for the apian allies. Be bee friendly!

Quince and pears putting on some size.

Crimson clover and friends in some #cottagecore rows of food, medicine and fodder for the bees and the people.

Stay vertical. Garden hard!

The place has been under seige of late. Head of Security Doom Kitty [not pictured today] and I were up most of the night hunting. Managed a wee nap then pushed to get out in the cooler mostly overcast day for many field chores.

Please enjoy some colour and greenery from the rounds as we enjoyed the chorus our apian allies.

Today's #soilspondence doing some tidy up and planting in the main greenhouse.

Horticulture supervisor Doom Kitty advised me of all the tomato side shoots needing trimmed.

Got a full rack of trays seeded with cutting salads and herbs and other things for autumn and winter garden.

Name that leaf?

Figs!

Garden hard.

When we have tiny garlic that probably won't make useful size cloves/bulbs we just go ahead and plonk them somewhere nothing else is going on, or even in some pots because you might still get something usable and/or left to carry on they will do this. Before they open up (scapes) can be sauted or pickled and the flowers are tasty in salads and sammies, insect ally friendly, and a rather dashing splash of bonus colour to boot.

From today's work in the sun.

Splashes of colour, mixed flowers in an amenity and polinator bed.

Had the first apple of the season today. Delicious.

Farmer Doom Kitty always at my side for a break in the shade.

The current strip, a bit green from recent rains. Winds had it covered with bark and sticks so cleaned up. Don't tell my docs but I tossed and few overs in spite of pain and movement limitations. If I'm breathing, I'm bowling. RESIST!

Garden hard! Stay vertical.
