Gales and lashing rain today but I’m finally making progress with my knitting project. I bought the wool and pattern for it while on holiday last summer! 😳 I have completed the first section of the repeating pattern, which comprises 56 rows. I recently acquired some extra long needles and am liking them very much #knitting #fairisle #Shetland
My stash buster sweater. Unfortunately my yarn stash is not big enough to make a sweater for myself, but this kid's sweater is turning out lovely!

This week I found buttons and finally finished my 1988 Cardigan after knitting on it for 4 months. Since I've never done colourwork this big before and had hardly any experience in steeking, it was quite an exciting project and now I have only love for this garment. Needless to say that I am wearing it almost all the time since adding the buttons.

Progress on my longterm project, the fairisle cardigan. I am looking forward to wearing it soon but I don't want it to be finished as it is so much fun to knit.

A few days before christmas I got to the point on my longterm project that I feared a bit: cutting the front steek. But it went so well! I learned that steeking can be intimidating but with a good choice of yarn (I used some shetland yarn) the steek is very safe and secure and it's somehow fun.

South Haven and Sheep Rock on beautiful Fair Isle. This is Scotland's most remote inhabited island, some 25 miles south-west of the southern tip of Mainland Shetland and some 30 miles north-east of the nearest of the Orkney Islands. Autumn Fair Isle 🍁

These are to be a Christmas gift (for someone who doesn't have Instagram) but as their colours more so reflect autumn I felt it was only right to post now. They are knitted after a pattern by Carina Olsson and it's the Fair Isle mitts from one of her books. All the yarns except the black are plant dyed, some by me and some bought!
Fair Isle is one of my personal favorite knitting techniques, both historical and colourful!

It's been a week of finishing off long running projects.

Ravelry tells me this took two years and fifty six days (not continuously, obviously) and last night it went to it's forever home to keep warm someone I care about.

The Jamiesons of Shetland wool was a dream to knit with. I love the colours and I'm really happy with how it turned out.
