Původně jsem měl NVMe disk zformátovaný na #NTFS. Včera jsem zjistil, že po zformátování disku na #exFAT se rychlost zápisu zdvojnásobila na 1 GB/s. Rychlost čtení dosahuje také 1 GB/s což je asi i reálný limit USB 3.2 Gen 2. Špatná propustnost je vlastnost NTFS nebo jeho ovladač je v #Fedora Linux tak neefektivní?

Trying to rsync files from one external drive (APFS) to another one (exFAT) slows down before my eyes. from 900kB/s to 600 kB/2 in a couple of hours. 1,1 Tb of data, millions of files and moving the files to an external exFAT formatted drive seems like a mission impossible with no heroes around.

@[email protected] As it turns out it was about the filesystem format. While exFAT supports millions of files per dir and huge partitions, #macos writing to #exFAT is just very slow (and also appears to slow down the more you write). Reformatting external disks with #APFS made a huge difference - maybe 10 times faster writes and no slowing down during the huge 7z file extraction process. Extraction toos 5-6 days to exFAT formatted disk and only 6 hours to APFS formatted disk.

RivermonsterOn the other hand #exfat may take longer - you have big hardware that isn't going to get updates and doesn't have exfat support because it was built before 2019 and won't be retired/upgraded until it breaks and they don't have spare ones in the warehouse. Might take decades realistically. Gatekeeping exfat was probably a top 10 #Microsoft blunder for tech in the last 10 years.
