I really liked this informal community poll and thematic analysis on SLO usage. It does a better job at highlighting the hurdles to adopting them at a Company Who Is Not Google than a lot of "Here's how to do SLOs" pieces that just don't cover it.

If there is ever a "Seeking SLOs" book, this should be the first chapter.

Notes on Service Level Objectives

Or, understanding "What Good Looks Like"

A Small, Good Thing
#nowreading Implementing Service Level Objectives by Alex Hidalgo, which I bought after his inspiring talk at #srecon last month. #sre #alexhidalgo #sli #slo #sla #errorbudgets
Morning #techbubble. #SRE and #devops in the fediverse looks to me like it's all about tech and tools. There's supposed to be so much more and I'm interested in #SLO , #postmortem , #errorbudgets , #riskmanagement , #continuity , #technicaldebt and the like. Hints whom to follow very welcome!

@jgoerzen @rthoelen I'd look past the tools and Clouds and into what the mindset of #SRE is. The Google SRE Book is a pretty good start.

If you want to begin with just one thing, implement a #postmortem process. That way you'll learn what to do next one incident at a time. If you want a second thing I'd say embrace the concept of #errorbudgets and talk to your customers about #SLOs which help you prioritize work. Only tools needed are a text editor and a monitoring system. HTH
