ECHA publishes updated PFAS restriction proposal 20/08/2025 REACH

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has published the updated proposal to restrict per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) under the EU’s chemicals regulation, REACH. The update has been prepared by the authorities from Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden, who submitted the initial proposal in January 2023.

ECHA has added decamethyltetrasiloxane and heptamethyltrisiloxane for the list of substances of very high concern as these are very persistent and very bioaccumulative (vPvB). These substances are widely used in cosmetics for example, so please check INCI of your bottles.

The @[email protected] provided @nextcloud to bodies of EU, as e.g. @[email protected], #ECHA and @EUCommission all use MS-Teams/O365 and demand the same from member states. AFAIK Commission currently sues (did sue?) EDPS for this. I hope this gives a new take on the debate as now it is not "only" a GDPR-infringement plus some "alarmists scenario" but a very real threat.

It is totally insane to basically eliminate #NIOSH. It provided top quality data on how to maintain a #healthy (=productive!) workforce. It’s also worth noting that not only the 900 NIOSH staff were laid off. They also cut most external NIOSH programs. In total this brings several thousand highly qualified experts on the global job market.
