Kto miał okazję zapoznać się z komiksami napisanymi przez Alana Moore’a, wie, z jaką pieczołowitością konstruuje on opowieści. To więcej niż precyzyjnie ułożone puzzle, których pojedyncze elementy znajdują właściwie miejsca w całym obrazie, bowiem nierzadko okazuje się, że na przykład pozornie przypadkowe sceny czy dialogi z początku fabuły stają się w pełni zrozumiałe dopiero na ostatnich kadrach. Analogicznie ma się sprawa z „Wielkie Kiedy”. To fantastyczna powieść rozgrywająca się w realiach powojennej Wielkiej Brytanii.
