I met this book as an audiobook.
And haven't see the paperbook.
So I don't know how Ada's name was handled in the paperbook.
But the joke/surprise came over very well in audio.
In the scintilating opening vingettes, immediately after Ascot and the thin horse, Alan takes us to a rental that backs onto one of London's abandoned liberties.
Where better than a Oxford University PhD thesis, supradense, to read what a #Liberty is?

Author #AlanMoore has included a (?) penultimate chapter on the late life of the main character, about 50 years after we get to know him.
Old age. Infirm. Resigned. On the border of terrified. Failed marriage with his true love heavy in memory.
And also the kicker.
Alone and isolated.

I'm listening to #TheGreatWhen by #AlanMoore.
I'm not sure how to rate it's darkness. It's dark for me. Though since my disappointment with that Iain Banks book which featured the chair made from bones I haven't gone searching for dark.
Tangent: A relative had an Audible account but forgot how to check email etc and so Audible closed thr account. AIUI they lost all access to the previously downloaded books when the account closed. Not clear if you've got that covered.
The opening of small scintilating vingettes has been replaced by a chapter focused on a time in the life of a single character.
Now reminded of #DouglasAdams, slight melancholy, some whimsey, somewhat clueless central character interacts with others.
Listening very carefully as the imagery is (delightfully) demanding.
Have quickly run into a question about how to understand, "Although following that logic ... oh dear, you as well?"
Are trusting the author and continuing.
