Dear Hopeful Friends of Flash drives,

Finally!

Managed to format my flash drives by using 'easydd' a #GUI written by Barry Kauler for his EasyOS Linux, Puppy and also other Linux (theoretically for me at the moment)
https://easyos.org/install/how-to-write-easyos-to-a-flash-drive.html#EasyDD_frontend_for_dd

"EasyDD is in EasyOS, however, if you are not yet running Easy, you will have to download this utility. It is a script named 'easydd', and should work in almost every Linux distribution." ~ Barry Kauler

Get it from here:
http://bkhome.org/files/easydd.gz

Now I have EasyOS 7.2.2 on one flash drive and this is persistent. For example I added Audacity BUT EasyOS is experimental. Not really ready for every day desktop use.

However I also installed 'easydd' on Puppy Linux (see image) and that is persistent saving data on the USB Flash Drive

'easydd' also works with ISO and I installed #LinuxMint 22.3
and #MX-25.1 on two other new USB Flash drives
Neither of those save onto the Flash drive (they seem to want to just be run as installer images)

So I am making progress.

Maybe someone knows which #Linux run best from flash drives? Mine do not allow me that option for some reason (apart from #EasyOS and #Puppy Linux

@louis Merci! Moi j'ai installé #debian 13 ou #emmabuntu en fonction des besoins. J'avais proposé #zorin également mais personne ne l'a choisi encore. Et personnellement moi j'utilise Debian et #easyos

Linux Easy - News da Mondo Linux

Dear friends of #easyos

Yep. Got it working on my laptop. So pride of myself. Not proud boys, but hum-bled. Before I was running a weird mutant Linux

Now I am running Excalibar (v7.0.13), if I can do it a lobster CAN-can ride a bike.

I must be one of those cool cats that I read about...

Dear Friends of EasyOS,

Barry Kauler has released EasyOS Linux 7.0.8 (not yet officially) I just pressed the update button and it updated after I deleted the older 7.0.6 img file (as there was no room for it)

So it has jumped a number. I am aware of some of the improvemets as I am following Barrys blog.

#EasyOS

Dear alternative Friends,

In real life (RL) I have this morning:

- Checked out #EasyOS Linux. Not yet ready for auto-update of the Next Release. I am awaiting... with spare laptop at the ready... Oz OS? Coming...
- Installed an old working ionizer to collect micro-dust on a clean bit of paper next to my pillow
- Had no sugar, vegan muesli for breakfast and seeded bread with low salt yeast type spread
- Emailed those interested in https://www.yourparty.uk/#// an ultra popular pro peace pro NHS, pro people, pro community housing party etc started by a former leader of the opposition. 300 000 people interested in joining and counting...

Ah well bang goes my anarchic un-principles...

Still awaiting the latest #EasyOS Linux to be upgradeable by pressing one button.

I just booted into it from a keydrive. It can not be booted from an ISO like Puppy Linux. As usual it mostly runs from root, so is theoretically not as secure as some require. Also it has far too many programs BUT only Rox Filer for reading files. The new version is in preparation
https://bkhome.org/news/

If you want to try it out, wait just a little longer...

Give that lobster a bicycle! 🦞

As usual I can not remember how I have done it. BUT:

I am in #EasyOS Linux, updated to the latest version and running the #Seamonkey #Browser.
I am of course running as root miss user. We old #Puppy Users HATE passwords.

We are so naughty...

I am also using two monitors, booting from a USB keydrive and feeling Super smug with myself (don't worry I will not be installing BSD variants - I am not that smug) 😉

You can cheer for me or scream if you prefer. I can only say persistence does pay off ✅
... and oh, thanks for the virtual bicycle

Ugh, my flirtation with #EasyOS is on a break. It lasted one day, which about what I expected. Distros can draw you in with all this craziess like running from RAM and logging you into X as root. And there are all these icons of apps that imply you can do stuff. Shockingly, Wifi and sound just worked.

But... My bog-standard Logitech mouse wouldn't pair. I tried installing KeepassXC from the pkg manager, 👎 tried AppImage, 👎 Tried Flatpak 👎.
Sorry that bodes unwell. I might try again in a year.
