Daring fish theft by raccoon at #Kansas eagle nest! 😄 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qte1jwDMWKY

I thought it was cute the way this raccoon sneaked up onto the nest and grabbed the fish, then spun around for the getaway, bumping into a branch on the way out. Then he (or a different one?) comes back but Harvey is ready for him this time.

BTW the eaglets have just recently fledged which is why the nest is empty. So much goes on at these eagle nests overnight, I don't know how they ever get enough sleep!

These baby eagles are growing fast! The Big Bear eagle cam usually has tens of thousands of viewers, and this one numbers less than a hundred. But the angle on this one gives such a good view of the nest.

My wife has been watching the caring of the egg, the hatching and now the growing up of the sea eagle family at Sydney Olympic Park on their webcam feed - https://www.sea-eaglecam.org/video.html

The bird have grown up, they're not fluffy balls anymore. They're not in the nest anymore, they've moved out.

My wife now suffers from the Empty Nest Syndrome, literally!

I also learned that "when not incubating or rearing chicks, eagles prefer to sleep standing up on branches or other perches. They have a special locking mechanism in their feet that allows them to grip branches automatically, without 'thinking' about it."

These trees are made for… Eagles! Jackie and Shadow sure enjoy the variety of trees Big Bear Valley has to offer. Trees are vital for bald eagles, especially in areas crawling with ground predators...

TIL that eagles can hold up to 2 lbs of food in a part of their esophagus called the crop, and they can go for days without fresh food, according to the live #EagleCam

My older brother shared this eagle cam link with me: as of yesterday there were two eaglets in the nest. Apparently last year there were two eggs that never hatched…
