#AAPI #Immigration #BirthrightCitizenship . . .
The #Chinese learned early on to use the legal system in the US to protect their "rights" in this country from opposing discriminatory laundry & queue taxes to denying them citizenship.
US vs #WongArkKim, a suit brought by an American born Chinese, established the principle of "birthright" citizenship in the Us in 1898 and a mural to celebrate this man & decision has just been painted at the corner of Sacramento & Grant in SF:

Of course the #Drump administration wants to undo this decision but., if the SCOTUS reverses this decision, it opens a HUGE can of worms because then it could be argued that NO ONE born in the US can claim citizenship and, if so, then what are the boundaries that make someone born in the US a citizen or not?
Just the fact that they are white or not? 🤔
