One summer day, in the Stuttgart forest, I saw this beautiful beetle (Dorcus paralelolipipedus) walking on a dead tree. Despite the appearance of their jaws, they are completely harmless. This species is widespread in Europe and can be found in many countries. Only on that occasion I was lucky enough to see it, and it posed for some photos.
Due to the displacement of its habitat and human use of forests, the beetle is increasingly threatened and there is a possibility that it may disappear from the Earth in the future.

Dorcus parallelipipedus, uno de nuestros grandes lucánidos ibéricos (aunque no tan grande ni conocido como Lucanus cervus, el ciervo volante).
No sé mucho de su biólogía; recuerdo que de niño los veía volar al atardecer en el encinar y me llamaban mucho la atención por el zumbido tan grave que producen al batir sus alas a baja frecuencia.
Parece que tienen hábitos crepusculares, pues las fotos están sacadas al amanecer y por la noche (por ello, están hechas con flash y tienen esas sommbras tan duras). Ambas son de un parque urbano, a la orilla del río.
