Those Meridians have been worked very hard recently so they'll need lots of TLC both to improve reliability and to smarten up the interior.
I'm not convinced that I'd enjoy a multi hour journey in one in the current state & configuration.

#DirtyDiesel. #railways

As #India steadily transitions from a dirt poor #ThirdWorld hellhole to a middle income 3rd 🌎 country, the risk of developing cancer for the hordes & hordes of its inhabitants (1400 million & still increasing) has also shot up alarmingly! 😳

The natural #anticarcinogen #turmeric is an integral part of #Indian cuisines, but known #carcinogens in the environment have also shot up.

#Dirtydiesel (the #filthyfuel) ⛽️ once powered ~58% of all new cars, but is now down to ~18%.

Rwanda’s Transition To Electric Buses – Same TCO for electric buses as diesel buses after only three years of operation (as opposed to six)

The Government of Rwanda has prioritized the transition to e-mobility to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions and improve the wellbeing of its citizens, thus contributing to achieving national and global goals. Transport contributes 13% of Rwanda’s national GHG emissions.

While the cost for the purchase of e-buses is the main deterrent for bus operators, the savings from reduced operations and maintenance are substantial and are bolstered by the current incentives in place. Furthermore, while buses only comprise 0.74% of the total number of vehicles, they nevertheless disproportionately contribute 39.1% of GHG emissions in the transport sector in Rwanda.

> By Yizere Ange Vehicular emissions are currently the leading cause of increasing air pollution in cities in Rwanda. In recognition of the well-documented impact of air pollution on public health, the Government of Rwanda (GoR) has introduced incentives for introducing electric vehicles across all vehicle types. While electric motorcycles, cars, bicycles, and even trucks have […]

Diesel Dies A Decade Earlier: Europe's Seven Largest Commercial Truck Makers Agree To End ICE Production By 2040

Europe’s seven largest commercial truck makers have jointly agreed to end the sale of diesel-engined trucks by 2040. Instead, Daf, Daimler, Ford, Iveco, Man, Scania, and Volvo will switch focus to hydrogen fuel cell and battery-electric vehicles, allowing them to achieve their zero-emissions goals a full decade earlier than previously planned.
I know it seems far off still, but it has just moved 10 years earlier than previously thought was possible, and further breakthroughs in battery technology may even move it still closer.

Researchers at EPFL Switzerland find a way to extract and store CO2 from commercial vehicles exhausts

Researchers at EPFL, Switzerland have now come up with a novel solution to this problem: capturing CO2 directly in the trucks' exhaust system and liquefying it in a box on the vehicle's roof. The liquid CO2 is then delivered to a service station, where it is turned into conventional fuel using renewable energy. The project is being coordinated by the Industrial Process and Energy Systems Engineering group, led by Francois Marechal, at EPFL's School of Engineering. The patented concept is the subject of a paper published in Frontiers in Energy Research.
The whole process takes place within a capsule measuring 2 m x 0.9 m x 1.2 m, placed above the driver's cabin. "The weight of the capsule and the tank is only 7 percent of the vehicle's payload," adds Marechal. "The process itself uses little energy because all of its stages have been optimized." https://squeet.me/objects/962c3e10240dc3789119b4f4aa90b95d1537c377
