Introducing #devBnB. A concept. Where city developers can “book” coding opportunities to go to a farm or small village project in need of open source/hardware expertise to build farm solutions, federated power grids, rural traffic solutions, reverse-engineer proprietary shit.

devBnB. Where city based hard- and software developers can book coding opportunities to go to a farm or small village project in need of open source/hardware expertise to build farm solutions, federated power grids, rural traffic solutions, reverse-engineer proprietary shit. Escape from the city. Build open source code. Feel nature. Experience small communities. It’s what you want. Admit it :) A weird idea, but who knows, sounds like a fun project! Wanna join? :)

The Web is a weird place at times. With standards, de-facto standards, hacks and quirks everywhere. But after some tinkering, I now have OpenGraph Data added to my Jekyll template, so previews should kinda work here. Let's test it, shall we? :)

Restless City Dwellers

devBnB - There you are. In the city. Looking at the walls and windows of your home office or your cubicle. There must be a better life, you muse. You wish you could stand up, walk away into the nature and breathe fresh air. A wonderful thought. But you also know —...

After another round of feedback and this poll, in true arrogant and ignorant graphic designer ways, I went back to orange. I switched the green to enhance contrast and also used a lighter orange. And to make the set complete, I also created round and square simple logos, without the cycle person. That's enough graphics, work on the project itself is more important :) Thank you all for your insights so far!

Allright. I guess I can use my favourite colour, orange, after all. This new version with darker green and lighter orange should also be readable for people with colour blindness. I hope :) This simulator with the Machado algorithm seems to deliver an acceptable approximation [1].

The old colour scheme really does fail big time. Thanks to all for telling me!

Addendum: And that's my current proposal for the logo. It's in the assets/SVG folder of the repo, also assets/PNG for bitmap versions. Steampunky, friendly, old-school and in the colours every farmer recognises ;)

The domains are connected. They have their letsencrypt certificates. A very simple static landing page is made. I think I have deserved a morning coffee now :) After that I will configure the mail stuff and write some more content on the concept. Please add your ideas too! I mirror the site code at https://codeberg.org/jwildeboer/devbnb where you can open issues to share your thoughts!

@editora I would never dare to claim to own the idea of #devBnB :) Ideas are to be shared so they can find new friends.I knew other people think in similar ways. Let's join and connect and see what comes next! @jandi @casatiajulia @ekaitz_zarraga @xrasl @Notxor

@jandi @jwildeboer Wow, the idea of a #RuralDevBnB is very close to what we do at @casatiajulia.

We also run events about culture, technology and art. Years ago, we ran an event about 'Technology and Ethics', which is how I discovered the Fediverse, thanks to @ekaitz_zarraga @xrasl and @Notxor :)

We are based in Ciria, a very small town with just 42 inhabitants in winter, in the province of Soria in Spain.

Cómo librarse de Google, Linux, impresión 3D y Bitcoin para anarquistas. 14-15 jul, Ciria (Soria)

Un fin de semana en un pueblo de 40 habitantes hablando de tecnología y ética.

Ah, why not. devBnB.eu and .org booked. Someone squatted the .com domain years ago, but I don’t care yet. Will put up a landing page tomorrow and whoever wants to (help) build it, let’s go :) @EUCommission
