Best practices in pre- and post-ATR for historical research

Based on discussions and hands-on experiments conducted with the participants of a HERMES Bring Your Own Data Labs workshop hosted in Mainz in February 2025, this paper shares four key recommendations for (AI-supported) pre-and post-ATR (automatic text recognition) in historical research. The code used during the workshop and important observations are also published in the following GitHub repository:Barget, Monika (2025). Automated text recognition in historical research. The closing session of #dae2025 looks back at the events of the past week and summarizes why thinking about history is important for the present of #digitalhumanities and #ResearchInfrastructures in Europe. Attending the live #demo session for new #tools and services at #dae2025 now. The session also includes a brief demonstration of the new content management system behind the #DariahCampus platform. DARIAH-Campus is the @dariaheu discovery framework and hosting platform for learning resources: https://campus.dariah.eu/ We are also in the process of migrating @dariahteach to this new environment.

On my way to Alte Mensa in #Göttingen for the opening panel of #dae2025. I am looking forward to the discussion about research #infrastructures and the collaborations behind them. Navigating the national and European landscapes of infrastructure initiatives in the Humanities alone has become a real challenge --- and understanding how you as a researcher, teacher or student can benefit and contribute is even more difficult. Good to hear more from #dariaheu, @nfdi4culture and @ThWuebbena today!
