On Friday I watched a Little Grebe busily finding food (mostly Mayflies) for the last of his chicks. Frustratingly, the little Little Grebe was spending most of his or her time on the far side of the pool. Eventually a closer approach was made and I managed to capture the food pass on camera a few times.

Before my 2 weeks in Wales I was watching a pair of Little Grebes who nested at Brandon Marsh: the male regularly returned to the nest with food, or nesting material and made underwater attacks on other birds swimming too close! On my return I was pleased to see 3 (now just 2) well-grown chicks out on the water, still with traces of stripy markings on their heads.

Lovely to see the Little Floofs, oops, sorry, the Little Grebes changing into their Summer plumage. I have many favourite birds, and Dabchicks (as Little Grebes are also known) are definitely amongst them! This one was photographed at Brandon Marsh last week.
