around the same nests as in the previous post, about a week later. their feathers are even more developed, and they've grown considerably, standing outside of their nests (4 photos) #bird #littleegret #nature
several nests are clustered together in this area, and there's a lot of activity everywhere. I was initially focusing on the most boisterous nest, but around the third photo, I noticed that the parent bird had returned to the left side nest, causing a commotion there as well, so I photographed both nests in the fourth photo. you can see some of the chicks are larger than those in my previous post, and their feathers are slightly more developed (4 photos) #bird #littleegret #nature
the largest group in this mixed flock is the little egrets. the chicks in this nest seem quite small, but they can already stay home alone. when a parent egret returns, they stretch up, begging for food (4 photos) #bird #littleegret #nature
another nest of little egret, these appear to be a little younger than the other nest's babies (2 photos) #littleegret #bird #nature
little egret babies, feeding time (2 photos) #littleegret #bird #nature
a little egret came to collect branches for its nest, but it didn't seem to like the first one it found, so it went into the bushes to look for a longer branch and flew away. (4 photos) #littleegret #bird #nature
couples of little egrets that had started nesting earlier had gathered branches from the bushes near the colony, but it seemed there wasn't much material left there, so the couples currently building their nests were flying back and forth to a little further away, it means they had to get branches from the area closer to me and other observers (4 photos) #littleegret #bird #nature
I was on a wooden deck by the water, where I could watch a mixed colony of little egrets, grey herons, and cormorants from afar, when a little egret came to the tree just above to get a branch for nesting (4 photos) #littleegret #bird #nature
little egrets, whose population is said to be declining in Japan, are the largest group in this colony. there are still some individuals that seem to be looking for a mate, some couples carrying branches and building their nest, and some of them seem to be finished and sitting on quietly (so they may be incubating eggs). I'm watching from quite a distance, it's really good for them since we cannot get close. #littleegret #bird #nature
2 photos of the little egret taking off (and as usual, I zoomed in too much and the tips of its wings aren't in the shots 😂) #bird #nature #littleegret
